Tales of Tamar und Google Mail

Ich habe jetzt eine Möglichkeit gefunden, GoogleMail (und wahrscheinlich auch andere verschlüsselte Emaildienste) mit "Tales of Tamar" zu nutzen.

Die folgende Anleitung bezieht sich auf Windows XP. Das ganze sollte aber ähnlich unter Vista laufen.

Zunächst brauchen wir das Programm STunnel.

Ladet von http://www.stunnel.org/download/binaries.html die aktuellste Version herunter und installiert sie (z.B. nach C:\Programme\stunnel\). Dann brauchen wir noch die beiden DLLs libeay32.dll und libssl32.dll von http://www.stunnel.org/download/stunnel ... 9.7f-zlib/ Außerdem brauchen wir auch noch http://www.stunnel.org/download/stunnel ... tunnel.pem

Diese drei Dateien müssen in das eben erstellte Verzeichnis kopiert werden (also C:\Programme\stunnel\).

Im Startmenu findet Ihr einen neuen Eintrag namens stunnel. Dort wählen wir zuerst Edit stunnel.conf und kopieren dort folgenden Text hinein:

Ersetzt dabei den vorhandenen Inhalt der Datei komplett. Dieses Beispiel bezieht sich auf Google Mail. Ersetzt evtl. die Einträge mit den entsprechenden POP und SMTP-Servern Eures Providers.


Nur wird stunnel als Service installiert Service install und anschließend gestartet Service start.
(Wer möchte, kann auch einfach nur Stunnel ausführen (per Run stunnel), in dem Falle muß man das aber nach jedem Neustart erneut machen.)

(Wer eine Firewall installiert hat, muß natürlich auch noch Stunnel den Zugriff auf das Internet erlauben.)

Nun starten wir ToT. Im Optionsscreen geben wir unsere Daten wie gewohnt ein, lediglich als POP3-Server und SMTP-Server tragen wir jeweils localhost ein. ToT warnt uns dann, das Host und Emailadresse nicht übereinstimmen, was wir in diesem Fall akzeptieren.

Und das wars auch schon. Ab sofort verbindet sich ToT mit Gmail um Mails zu holen und zu verschicken. Viel Erfolg!

I have found a way to use GoogleMail (and probably other encrypted mail services) with "Tales of Tamar".

These instructions refer to Windows XP. It should work similarly under Vista.

First, we need the program STunnel.

Download the latest version from http://www.stunnel.org/download/binaries.html and install it (to C:\Program Files\stunnel\ for example). Then we need the two DLLs libeay32.dll and libssl32.dll from http://www.stunnel.org/download/stunnel ... 9.7f-zlib/ as well as this file http://www.stunnel.org/download/stunnel ... tunnel.pem

These three files have to be copied to the directory we just installed the program to (C:\Program Files\stunnel\).

In the start menu, you will find a new entry called stunnel. First run Edit stunnel.conf replace the contents with this:

This example uses Google Mail. Replace the servers with your own if you have another provider.


Now install the service (Service install) and then run it (Service start).
(If you want, you can just run it (via Run stunnel), but you'll have to remember to do that again after each reboot.)

(If you have a firewall running, you need to permit stunnel to connect to the Internet, of course.)

Now run ToT. In the option screen, enter your data as usual, just enter localhost instead of the pop3 and smtp server. ToT will warn us that the email address doesn't match the server name, which we will ignore.

And that's it. From now on, ToT will connect to Gmail to send and receive mail. Good luck!
