Haymigga,
Normally you wont have to do MUCH fighting with the Elves/Orcs/Dwarfes but I am taking land which they have taken for themselves, and as such I am being attacked in numbers by their armies.
When I first came to Tamar my realm was attacked my a grisly Orc army, and it took a lot of my land. Luckily, one Lord Agomar came to my rescue and destroyed the offensive Orc army that was in my land. But for years afterwards I struggled to live on the reduced resources I could cultivate from the smaller amount of land I had available to me. Only when I could build my first army was I able to take the land back.
Different regions of Tamar have different population densities of Orcs Elves or Dwarfes. Much of my land is woodland, and as such there are many Elves who dwell there. If I owned lots of mountaineous land I would be meeting lots of Orc armies, and as for Dwarfes I've never had the pleasure of meeting one of those so I don't know where they dwell.
If you are placed in an area that has a high risk of Elf or Orc activity then it helps if you can forge a good relationship with another local Lord who will offer you some form of protection in the early stages. You will be defensless until you can build your first armies and that will be some years off yet (ToT time)
The Elves are particularly nasty if attacked - they are extremely strong and have already seen off a pretty substantial army of mine!!! Also, it is rumoured that these creatures can call on the spirits for a Dragon to appear if they feel threatened. Dragons are extremely dangerous and powerful creatures.
Lord Matador.

Haymigga,
Unfortunately you're right - there is nothing you personally can do about him for some time yet. Best just hope he moves on. I've certainly not heard of an Orc attacking a town itself so I very much doubt you're in danger of taking an early retirement. At worst he'll take some of your land, at best he will simply move away.

Tamarian,
There is more to it unfortunately hehe
When you start off you have a certain amount of land that is yours. 7 acres if I remember
In order to get more land your armies must annex it... but you wont be in a position to build armies for some time to come yet.
If the surrounding land is owned by another Lord then obviously your taking it from him would be seen as an act of war... unless you've negotiated a deal over the land that is
