Vereinte Reiche von Tamar / United Realms of Tamar
Moderator: Moderatoren Team
Hochachtungsvoll
Satai Skar - Ausrufer der Vereinten Reiche
PS: Könnte das bitte jemand ins englische Übersetzen?

Honored Lords and Ladies,
today, I would like to pronounce a new organisation, the United Realms. Every realm of Tamar is invited to join.
These are its goals:
1. Preserving world peace
2. Preventing the escalation of conflicts into open war
3. Helping opposing parties to negotiate
4. Restoring peace after the breakout of conflicts
5. Conflict prevention, protecting and promoting peace, enforcing measures to keep the peace
Once again: All realms are asked to join us in this effort, since only a board representing all Lords and Ladies can really be effective.
Together, we shall discuss how to keep or to restore the peace on Tamar.
Every realm that is under attack or feels to be in danger of one can turn to the United Realms to prevent the escalation of the conflict.
Yours faithfully,
Satai Skar - Bellman to the United Realms

I, Captain Garibaldi of the Sea Eagles company and elected ruler of Babylon, hereby wish to express Babylon's complete opposition to such an organisation.
It is unmedieval. It is unnatural. It is unproductive.
It serves to do no more than preserve the status-quo and the standing of the rich and powerful, while reducing the chances of smaller nations of ever rising to prominence. Coupled with the system of vasselage, it only ratifies the wishes of high ranking lords, who can count on their vassals' support in any vote. This gives the powerful lords a virtual veto in any proceedings.
Tamar is a quest for power, fame and glory. What else is there? Warfare, competition and political intrigue are part of the mix, and must be accepted as such. What sort of world do we want to live in, one which rewards rulers of quality or a sterile place where all major policies are decided by a committee dominated by the rich and powerful, and everyone else has to stay in their place. Why bother living on Tamar at all in such conditions? The Gods would be forced to intervene more and more just to keep these realms barely intersting to live in.
If everyone is to be at peace and all realms have a vote in a committee, why would a liege lord need a strong vassal when a small and weak one will do just the same? Another nail in the coffin of the smaller lords. The rich get richer and the poor starve. Is this the Tamar we want?
Long ago, when Lord Celebaglar ruled in Leesti on Nonakesh, he was part of a loose alliance called the Eastblock Alliance. This was formed by a number of lords of roughly equal status, and was in response to a percieved threat of invasion from a much more powerful lord. The alliance didn't really work very well, however, so Lord Celebaglar proposed the forming of a Republic encompassing the 7 or 8 realms that would have been interested, with elections of a ruling council and consul every five years. It was a system based on the one used in the Roman Republic on Earth, and despite being older and the interest of at least two other lords, it was rejected as being inappropriate to Tamar. Yet it was a thousand times more appropriate than the abomination which this United Nations represents.
Removing warfare and intrigue from Tamar would leave a sterile and stagnant world, leaving a United Nations dominated by the rich and powerful. Babylon rejects the authority of any such body, and opposes its formation. Furthermore, we urge all right minded true Knights of the world of Tamar to oppose and reject the formation of this institution, and strike a blow for freedom and glory!
If need be, and alliance should be formed to oppose the authority and influence of this "United Nations".
Keep Tamar free!!

Captain Garibaldi of Babylon
anderen seinen willen aufzuzwingen. ähnliches befürchte ich bei einer
solchen "weltpolizei".
ausheult.

Werter Jinx, Dear Garibaldi,
Hochachtungsvoll
Satai Skar
the United Realms are an Organisation to protect Peace on Tamar, no one forces to join you, but every realm can contact the organisation, also if they are not in this organisation. I dont want to claim anybody how he has to rule his realm. But for me is this organisation, with "all" realms of Tamar united and with equal rights, the chance for real Peace on Tamar. Of course who isn't convinced of peace like me of the necessity, this one will not see meaning either or join.
Sincerly

Satai Skar, miladies and milords,
First of all I want to thank the Satai for posting an English version of his reply. This was very considerate and is much appreciated. I would therefore like to apologize in advance for being unable to reciprocate and present a German version of this post. However, if anyone feels the need to translate it they have my complete permission to do so.
Nobles of Tamar, I will hereby address two separate issues Satai Skar has raised by forming the "United Realms of Tamar". I will do so as two separate issues, because each has an individual focus and effect. I also want to point out that despite holding military rank, I am not a bloodthirsty warmonger and do not believe in applying violence where diplomacy may prevail. It is important to remember this when considering the issues that follow.
1. The necessity for the Peace of Tamar
Put bluntly, Tamar does not need to be at peace. The gods of Tamar - no matter what creed one follows - are not gods of peace. They are gods of conquest, gods of empire, and yes, gods of war even. But these gods need worshippers, and not any old peasants, but noble worshippers, from amongst the ruling classes. The more noble worshippers, the better pleased the gods are, but should worshippers start to leave and turn their back on Tamar, so eventually will the gods, until Tamar itself will fall into ruin and despair. [*]
Yet this Peace of Tamar will do nothing else except make people leave Tamar, either because they are bored or frustrated or both. What is the point of putting in the effort to rule a realm if there are no opportunities for rising through the ranks, no opportunity to build or help build an empire and basically no opportunity to do anything interesting at all? None at all, so when the current ruling period ends for many lords, those who are bored or frustrated will simply leave Tamar rather than choose to continue.
Just as lords must be given the opportunity to rise and become powerful, there must always be the possibility that they will fall or be destroyed. This must apply to everyone, from the highest to the lowest, so that everyone on Tamar may feel that one day their chance for glory may come. To crush this possibility and remove war from the realms of Tamar completely is pure folly, idiocy in the extreme. War, like peace, is something lords may need at the appropriate time, either for themselves or by taking advantage of the downfall of others.
Peace should not be seen as a guaranteed right. It should be seen as a luxury, something that requires hard work and diplomacy to achieve, not something that can be ordered on tap my appealing to some self-appointed organisation whenever one feels threatened. Peace is the prize, and it should be EARNED. Success or even survival on Tamar should be a challenge, not just a case of doing a little basic economic management each quarter. Where is the challenge in "calling in the cavalry" every time you are under a little threat? Why should people bother with politics and diplomacy and interaction when they can just call in the "authorities" whenever they have a little problem? Let me use the current conflict as an example: Lord Agomar and Father McKenzie has strived against each other and competed fiercely while expanding onto a number of new regions. Throughout this time the expansions have been done in the form of a race, with each side seeking to outmaneuver the other so that they may secure more land or the best resources. Each time one side scored a small victory in this race against the other, it fermented resentment. Each time a little trick worked and gained a little advantage, it fermented more resentment. As this bad feeling grows, so the moves become more and more aggressive, until someone oversteps the line and we have war. Yet this whole situation could have been avoided, with neither side suffering any negative effects. How? By negotiating the regions to be annexed in advance, and renegotiating as circumstances changed. Doing this successfully and sticking to those treaties would have fostered respect and even trust between the two rulers and reduced the chances of war considerably. It may even have fostered an alliance. To suggest that a forced peace imposed at the sharp end of a spear will resolve the problem is puerile in the extreme. All that would do is postpone conflict and leave at least one side feeling cheated what it feels it is rightfully entitled to.
War and peace are two sides of the same coin, a coin which life on Tamar represents. If war is removed and replaced with yet more peace, there is not much point in tossing the coin, and thus, by analogy, not much point in bothering with Tamar at all.
The Peace of Tamar is an evil that must be opposed at all costs. Tamar must remain a world of uncertainty, where the coin of life may land to show war as well as peace. It can be no other way.
2. The United Realms of Tamar
Satai Skar has founded this organisation to act as policeman cum peacekeeper for all of Tamar. Yet no one has explained who polices the policeman. Who makes sure that the United Realms do not abuse their position? Who ensures that decisions are fair and not based on favoritism or political interests? How will it be verified that vassals are not compelled by their overlords to agree with them on every important decision? Who will enforce the peace if the Satai is the one whom the complaint is made against? Indeed, would the United Realms ever be in a position to approve action against the Satai, even if it was justified? Consider that before supporting it.
The Satai tells us of a vision of all the realms of Tamar living as equals under the Peace of Tamar. One cannot help but notice that some people would be more equal than others, the honoured Satai not least amongst these. It strikes me as remarkably easy to talk about protecting the peace and ensuring there is no major upheaval when you are one of those with most to lose from such upheaval. I would suspect that if we were to ask one of the impoverished frustrated little lords whose prospects are rather bleak, they may not be quite as enthusiastic about keeping everything as it is.
Let us not forget the aim of life on Tamar: to become Emperor. To be realistic, this is unachievable for most people, including humble Captains like myself, so the aim must be to help build an empire, to be part of the process and there when it happens to reap the rewards. Yet equality for all does not build empires. Equality for all is completely incompatible with the system of vassalage that is built into the fabric of Tamar. A vassal is not an equal, by the very definition of the term.
Are we really just seeing an attempt to obtain some form of legal mandate for taking military action in disputes that have nothing to do with those people in the United Realms? I think it likely.
Once again, I urge all Lords of Tamar to oppose the aims of this organisation, to reject its authority and refuse to recognise that it has any jurisdiction or mandate for any action taken outside the territory of its members, whether asked to intervene or not.
Keep Tamar free!!!

Captain Garibaldi of Babylon
Captain Garibaldi and myself have discussed this at length already, and we have both come to the same conclusion - that a united Realms of Tamar would be a bad idea because it restricts the ability of humble rulers like myself to climb the ranks, defeat enemies by clever tactics, and dominate land. By it's very notion, the United Realms of Tamar restricts my people's ability to prosper and grow.
I need not go further as my respected friend and ally Captain Garibaldi of Babylon has already explained all the points that we discussed and agreed upon last season.
I, and my people are against a United Realms of Tamar simply because it takes away our right to expand. I am not against peace, but I am AGAINST having my right to "choose" for myself taken away. While I and my people are of a peaceful nature, we would like to be able to exercise our powers of domination whenever we see fit for the good of our Realm. This power to decide has been given to me by my people - it is both my right and duty to command as I see fit, so as to secure the most prosperous future for my people as I can. This means that both war and peace will almost certainly lie in our future. The careful timing of these events, which is the maker of a good ruler, is the only thing that should decide my fate in how succesful I am.
If a United Realms of Tamar is to form, I am afraid that the people of Matador will not be joining or supporting it.

Respektvoll
