What is the name of...
Moderator: Moderatoren Team
...the island to the south-west of Nonakesh, but north of the actual continent of Elorien. This island is about half the size of Nonakesh and is already well populated by old and new lords alike. The lords Toral and Chutulhu are established here, yet I have seen no mention of the island's name yet.
Could someone please enlighten me?

Greetings Lord Agomar,
I understand that Elorien is a continent that includes a number of islands as well as the mainland, but every island or region should have a name - specially the islands.
Nonakesh is part of the continent of Elorien, but it has a separate name for the island itself, and I suggest the same should apply to the island between Nonakesh and what appears to be the Elorien mainland.
If no name has been chosen yet - which would be strange considering how many people live there already - then it is my suggestion that those of us who live there should pick such a name.

Greetings Lord Alberich,
(warning, what follows is probably a bit long)
Thank you for correcting my mistake regarding the name of the continent. I did ask the question of someone in the Tavern yesterday, as I had seen it spelt in different ways, and it seems I was cruelly misinformed. (Lord Deverry, you know the penalty for misleading the cartographers. Your next messenger will receive 20 lashes as punishment.)
However, with all the respect a relative newcomer should show for a Tamar veteran, I would have to take issue with the idea of streams. Put simply, streams and rivers do not flow from ocean to ocean, so it is hard to visualise such a scenario. There are two interpretations possible (aside from ignoring all laws of physics):
1) The lands like Nonakesh and the other areas are islands (the largest would be described as the continental landmass proper), with narrow sea channels separating them. This would appear the most natural in view of the geography, although such long narrow sea channels are extremely rare on Earth.
2) The "streams" are actually the navigable parts of rivers which are joined together at strategic points by man-made navigable channels. The parts of the rivers that are not navigable are not visible to us. This would indeed allow for all the land to be described as one continental landmass. However, not only is this second scenario hard to visualise, but the shape of the navigable parts does not really lend itself to the theory.
Realistically, since the water cannot be crossed except by owning a port and a ship, it is safe to say that Elerion is a continental landmass separated from a number of large satellite islands by narrow sea channels. This means that the largest unbroken landmass would be the continent of Elerion proper, while the other lands would be islands belonging to the Elerion continental shelf in the same way that Britain, Ireland, Sicily and Crete would be described as part of Europe. As such, each island certainly deserves, and ought to have a name of its own. For Nonakesh we already have this, but for the island directly to the south-west it appears we do not.
Not withstanding the fact that I was far from being the first to find it, I propose we name this island Endlómë. (OT: after my other favourite fantasy land, Midnight)
Note to all: Nonakesh and Endlómë should both be seen as part of the continent of Elerion, as Lord Alberich stated.
Well, do I hear a second?

...and before I get my head bitten off and find some huge army coming after my blood, I have taken a further look at the map as it is known to me, and there is a further possibility I had not covered:
- The channels of water to the east and south-west of Nonakesh and the one south of what I will call Endlómë for the sake of not having another name are in fact running freshwater as Lord Alberich stated, but do not run from ocean to ocean. They could just be the branches of a huge river forming what would amount to a giant delta before finally reaching the ocean to the north and west. This would suggest that when fully opened up, the continent of Elerion would be truly gigantic.

Greetings,
this depends on how these words are seen. I understand Endlómë is some kind of Quenya where "lómë" means "night" and "End" means "middle" taken from Endor "Middle-Earth".
One could say that Elerion is Quenya too if you take "El" as "star" and "erion" is an ending like something out of "Teleperion" whatever this means.
So from this point of view Nonakesh is the word that doesn't fit.
Cheers

Dear Lord Garibaldi!
1. No one should take offence at You, only because You say Your opinion about some landmasses.
2. It is indeed a fact, that the eastern parts of Elerion are still behind a magical border. So there is enough room for speculations.
3. As I said before, there is no reason to leave the areas/islands/landmasses unnamed, whatever they are.
4. This is a fantasyworld. We have Orcs, Dwarfs, Elves and in the future possibly greater dangers. So why can we not have streams which flow from ocean to ocean? It's all in Your imagination.
