PC shareware version

Beitrag von Biffordicus »

Hi guys! I'm back!

Ok, with the release of the PC shareware version I thought Id come back to Tamar - if only temporarily to see what has changed and if it is truly worth me paying more money to continue (though I have none atm).

First thing I notice is that there still is barely any English presence to the game :( (judgeing by forums) This is a real shame and you wont get much of a market outside of Germany without it.

Anyway, Im now waiting for Wolfen to ok my game (then I need to change the email it gets sent to Cause i am gonna use a seperate one from my nildram account)

And already I have a LOT of work for Wolfen and Lucksi to do in just the Registering Info text!!!!!!!! I'll send that via email seperatly to them.

See ya soon. Bifford.

Hello Bifford!

Good to see you back!

Yes, the german-centeredness is a problem. But without some active english-speaking players, we don't get a better international climate. And without this, we don't get more english-speaking players. A tricky problem.

I'm not sure how they advertise ToT in Germany, but I found out about this game on RPG Host, an English web site. Maybe the devs should try posting news about the game to more sites, specifically CRPG and MMOG sites, to solve this dilemma. In the mean time, there's always Babelfish.

Leyic: ToT is advertised on quite a few english sites. The problem is that many people come by here, see the vast majority of german players and shy away.

I can relate to that, I would feel the same if I came to a game run in Spain for example, with 90% spanish speaking people.

They really advertise? I visit quite a few general computer game and rpg web sites, but aside from the news bit I already mentioned, I haven't seen anything about ToT. I also checked a few of the major MPOG directories and only found ToT on one of them. And a Google search only turned up one more mention on a Sourceforge site (and tons of German sites of course). If the purpose of advertising is to spread interest about the game to a target audience, either ToT's PR campaign is failing miserably, or I'm way outside of that target audience.

I don't mean to get this thread off topic, so this'll be the last I mention of it here.

Could you provide a list of sites you think we should advertise to? I'm sure we can do something about that.

Since you asked...

The following sites are actually for independent web comics, but there is a large community surrounding these and many of these people and their readers are into computer games, RPGs, and the like. I've found many independent games through these, and there's a tendancy for news to spread on its own, so if your game is well liked by one of the authors, you may get mentioned on sites you've never even heard of. These are just the sites I know of, but if you find someone helpful within the community (and many are), they might point you to other places you can try as well.

http://pvponline.com/
http://www.machall.com/
http://www.penny-arcade.com/
http://www.megatokyo.com/

I've never actually tried advertising anything with them before, so I'm not sure exactly how helpful they can be or what their individual policies are, but from what I've seen they can help bring in a few people.

There are also a couple of general game sites that seem to mention just about anything computer game related, so they might be a little helpful too:

http://gonegold.com/
http://www.bluesnews.com/

There may also be a community out there that would like the strategy element of your game, but if there is I am unaware of it. There is, however, an interest over here in importing strategy board games from Germany (Settlers of Catan is relatively popular here), so a computer game equivalent may exist somewhere.

It is rather late where I am now and I don't have time to go through all my links to see who may be of help and who would just be a waste of your time (honestly I can't think of many more places that are indie-friendly), but I hope what I have provided will help you to expand your English-language base.

Another online comic with a readership of ca. 45000 daily is

http://www.reallifecomics.com

Also a gaming comic like the next one:

http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/index.php

But I don´t know how many readers they have on a daily basis since most don´t share that info.
