Conflict at Yggdrasil

Sir Kailen is walking between the first small buildings of the provisorily installed
military camp. He knows that there's still a lot to do until the first warriors can
be drilled and until they will be able to defeat the upcoming threat from the
Barbarian kingdom.

His thoughts focused on his warriors around him ..

Pah! Barbarians! We will not allow that they get by with ..

.. as suddenly a scout approached.

Sire, the Babarian troops are still annexing as much acres of land as possible.
War ships approaching in the north as well and more Babarian troops arriving
near our borders.

At least some of our small troops managed to annex a few acres back ..
but they are much less men than the Babarians ..

Damn! The Babarians shall rot in hell! Well, at least we're secure from the
south side ..

Er .. Sire .. er .. we have more to report.. .

What next?!! More good news?

Our scouts saw some troops of Lord Macjones. They are heading towards our
military camp .. they are annexing the mountains of the orcs and they are only
2 acres away from here

Ha ha. What are the odds! ..
okay, we have a lot of work to do.

Take the fastest horse we have and ride to our troops in the south.
One unit should come back here. Immediately! hurry!

Yes, there was a lot of work to do. Plans have to be made..

Lady Nellwyn looked at the maps ..

It was probably a mistake to encamp next to a ruin but she could understand that time was short.
Probably too short.

"The undeads tend to arise from these ruins", she said to Sir Kailen.

"Yes, true, but we had wasted a lot of time until we had reached the ruin
and until we completely had secured it. We have to take the risk!"

responded Sir Kailen. Then he laughed: "More enemies, more honour! Ha ha."

Nellwyn couldn't laugh but she knew he was right.

Anger and rage .. nothing else felt Sir Kailen in the moment as he listend to the reports coming from the
front line.

Babarian troops expand deeper into our realm .. from several directions, Sire. It seems they
want to hit us directly in our camp and they avoid any contact with our troops. There's no way to delay
them, Sire, aside from attacking them from face to face, but .. er.. we're afraid they outnumber our
men for sure.

These cowards! Babarians! Ha! I'd really like to see Messaggio from face to face!

In addition, Lord MacJones' troops are also only one acre away from our camp and we're
not even ready with our arrangements to have .. er .. to have a chance to defence our camp..., Sire.

Ok. I see. Keep on building up everything. But do it faster! We have to finish this camp. Now!
Perhaps we'll shed our blood .. but we'll do it in a honourable way. It seems we're for our own---but we
don't bow in front of a villain, an aggressor of the evil!

No, Sire. We will give them a honest fight! But .. Sire,?

What else?

You .. You, Sire .. should perhaps leave this area and return to the castes and come back
with more man, Sire. It's important that you survive.

No, my friend. My place is here at your side. But send a scout ..

As you wish, Sire!

"That foolish bastard has attacked two of our troops and also a medium war ship
and even an unarmed merchant vessel!"

contemptuously spoke Sir Kailen to the leaders of the other castes

"More then 10,000 men annihilated one of our infantry unit. 878 good men are dead!
Fortunately, another unit of us could repel the second attack of the Barbarians. No losses
on our side, 1000 on the Barbarian's side. Eventually, the Barbarians attacked us with two
medium war ships. Our ship was nearly destroyed but there are excellent seamen on board.
Therefore, they managed to repel the attack, too, and sank both hostile ships! But now,
they are for their own .. in between a bunch of hostile enemies. And the merchant vessel,
of course, had no chance at all"
.

"It seems that Lord Messaggio does want this war at any price .."
muttered Lord Devyn, the Druid, more to himself than to the others as suddenly,
Sir Kailen shouted

"Don't call him a Lord! He's a villain, a murderer and a coward! He has to pay for his crimes!"

Lord Devyn wanted to object because he and all the others didn't want this war and never did!
But he couldn't. They had no choice. They were forced into this war. Therefore, Lord Devyn
kept silent.

"The Gods will protect us, Sir Kailen. Do what you have to do now and fight our enemy in the
God's name!"
interrupted Padre Gildas the hush.

"It's not our fault but we have to go our way now ... It was decided not by us .. it's war!
Now we have to defend ourselves."

All leaders of the castes agreed.

Sire, our work in our main camp at Yggdrasil is proceeding nicely .. but we're still not yet ready. Nevertheless, we more care about our second camp. We managed to encamp at the ruin that tLor.. er .. villain .. sorry, Sire .. the villain.. Messaggio had stolen us. Unfortunately, there's a Barbarian artillery unit of unknown size only one acre away .. we don't think that we can hold the fort, Sire.

Ha! An artillery unit! I see .. hm ..there's nothing we can do about it at the moment. We only can pray to the Gods that they may protect our brave warriors.

Yes, Sire.

How does project "Heavy Rain" is going?

On its way, Sire

So, the die is cast. Very good, my friend. We'll never show the white feather in front of some Barbarians!

For sure not, Sire

..

Casualties:
Messaggio - 487 Barbarians, one medium war ship
Eburones - one medium war ship

Sire, we surprisingly could hold the fort in spite of the barbarian artillery unit. Our infantry warriors managed to crush all our enemies .. this time. 6 Heavy cavalry and infantry units have been descried in the east, Sire.

6?! Can we stop them somehow?

Not at the moment, Sire

How's "Heavy Rain" proceeding?

The first step has been done. Our troops debarked at Famora and managed to conquer some acres of the realm Messaggio.

Very good!

.. Sire?..

Anything else?

Someone has killed our scout at Yggdrasil .. and .. it seems the realm MacJones has been involved into this assassination..

MacJones! .. It seems the conflict reaches the next level .. keep an eye on MacJones' armies

For sure, Sire

Eburones - 3807 warriors, 2 small war ships, 1 scout

Finally, Lord Alexander Jones has written us, my friend. He said that he didn't want this war and asked us what aim we wanted to achieve at Yggdrasil. Weren't we clear in our public announcements? Anyway, we repeated our will to protect our friends at Yggdrasil against the undeads and, now, also against Messaggio. They all seem to be very eager on getting land all over Tamar. Pah! We only want land for your friends---a realm of 7 acres of land. What's wrong about it?

I see, Sire. Do you think he will accept our rights and our good intention?

To be honest, my friend, we don't think so. Another message we've just received told us that he wanted to discuss the issue with our liege lords! He really thinks he could ignore us, the Eburones. It was Messaggio who started the war---not us. Damn!

Yes, Sire. I wonder why now. Why does Alexander Jones now---after years!---started a "discussing" about a peaceful solution?

As discussion .. yes .. but not with us, as it seems. The point in time .. yes .. perhaps he's afraid that our "Heavy Rain" drops could wash away his vassal, the villain Messaggio, from Yggdrasil!

Sire, we're far away from beeing on the winning side. We're still under the siege of Messaggio and .. our scouts just have brought us more bad news ..

What is it?

Lord Salutiferius .. the vassal of the villain Messaggio .. started to position troops in Messaggio's land and to annex parts of his land .. to prevent us from reaching his towns. And .. Sire .. he tried to split our realm at Famora.

Lord Salutiferius? We know him from our liege lords. We thought he wouldn't like Messaggio as well. Our liege lords told us that Slutiferius was recently also involved in a war against Messaggio? What the heck is now going on?! We hope, he doesn't want to fight our troops .. hm. Keep an eye on him. We cannot accept that he splits our land into pieces that we cannot protect! But Ok, don't annex land from Lord Salutiferius that he got from Messaggio. Let's give him a chance to explain himself.

Casualties:
Eburones - 10579 warriors, 3 medium war ships
Messaggio - 19864 Barbarians, 9 medium war ships

the previous day ..

Sire! We have bad news. Our attempt to conquer Messaggio's town failed!

What? How is this possible? Our plan was easy! We should have managed to conquer that town!

Yes, Sire. We can't explain it .. our troops got the order to attack the defending armies of Messaggio. Afterwards, two units should occupy the unprotected town. But then ..

I know how the plan looked like. I gave the orders! Get to the point!

.. Of course, Sire. We cannot explain it but Messaggio's troops all of the sudden .. simply .. disappeared!

Disappeared? Disappeared!!

..er.. yes .. therefore, our attack ended before it could begin. Unfortunately, the two units to occupy the town were already on their way and couldn't be warned anymore. It was a disaster .. Messaggio's troops had hidden themselves somehow and waited until our men reached the center of the town .. it was a trap, Sire! .. over 13,000 were killed Only a few thousand managed to escape.

Disapeared! The devil must have supported that villain Messaggio!
Give orders to all our troops at Famora. They must find Messaggio's troops and annihiliate them completely! It's our only chance! We have to put all our eggs in one basket!.. And I will take the command over all our troops by myself and lead the attack!

Understood, Sire

Casualties (first day, where Messaggio had to suffer fewer losses):
Eburones - around 14,000 warriors, several ships
Messaggio - a few thousand Barbarians, several ships

----

current day:

The Eburonean troops managed to occupy the villain's town. All troops of Messaggio could be beaten, although Eburonean losses were high.

Casualties:
Eburones - around 30,000 warriors, some ships
Messaggio - over 70,000 Barbarians, some ships

----

Sire, we got a message from Lady Nellwyn. She writes that Lord Alexander Jones and Lord Jalad are negotiating to end this war.

What? All of the sudden? Haha. Messaggio could have got this earlier. Now he not only loses the war that he had started without reason but also his face. Ok, what do they offer?

They want us to leave Yggdrasil/Famora but for that, land shall be given to our friends at Yggdrasil .. thus, the reason why we came to Yggdrasil will be finally satisfied.

How much land? Which land?

Not yet clear, Sire. But they offer a ceasefire which shall begin in the winter of this year.

A ceasefire .. in winter. Ok. If Messaggio stops his sordid attacks we will revoke our orders to annihilate Messaggio's troops.

[oldscroll]
In winter of the year 740. We're men of honour and therefore, we will stick to this bargain. But! We will only accept a peace treaty if it is equitable!
[/oldscroll]

Yes, Sire.

Now, let's have a drink to our victory and let`s bemoun and pray for the brave warriors who were killed in action ..
