The way to succeed ..

We arrived in the middle of an angry new moon night; even the sky was
covered with heavy clouds such that the weak light of the stars couldn't
lighten up the scenery at all. Our People looked a little bit scared due to
this dark and unhappy night on this unknown and foreign world. Torches
were lit and Lady Nellwyn announced to encamp 'till the next morning.
Sir Kailen was requested to orgenize the guardians to take care over the
people during the night. Of course, this wasn't really necessary as Sir Kailen
was giving already orders and scheduled several groups of worriers for
this duty.

I don't know how many of us could close an eye in that night but I couldn't
at all. Too excited on the one hand, too suprised about this unexpected
rough land on the other hand, I was, thus, my thoughts couldn't calm down
and were looking for all the new things to discover in this unfriendly looking
land called Tamar.

With the first sun beams, I climbed up a hill to get a better view. The clouds
had disappered and nothing but a bright, blue sky covered the landscape. I
held my breath and all cheerless thoughts were blown away forthwith. Yes,
this should become our new home and indeed, as you might already know,
it has been becoming our new home in the meantime, even though, there's
still a lot to do .. as there's always still a lot to do :). Anyway, Tamar was
truely a wonderful place for us to wipe the slate clean!

Meanwhile, more and more people awoke und had probably the same feelings
about this land as myself. Suddenly, in a certain distance, I saw something
.. no, someone! There was a human who looked in a way like a ranger but
appeared to be unarmed and without any hint of hostility. I climbed down the
hill, went to Lady Nellwyn and told her about that stranger comming along.
With Sir Kailen and Padre Gildas, we discussed what to do and decided, that
it would be best if I initiated the first contact. So it came that I met the first
non-Eburonean on Tamar...

Dear Devyn.

I already got to know the lovely Lady Nellwyn and I appreciate to meet you too. Welcome to Tamar!

We've already been sending a ship with a scout to your land and we can't wait to get there, so that we can exchange all the interesting news with your people. We already saw some birds, so we guess, that we are not too far away from your island.

Sending you lots of blessings

Freakinus, the encouraged dealer.

Dear Lord Freakinus,

Knowledge is power, thus, news and information are always welcome. I'm looking forward seeing you and your scout! We, the Eburones,
will appreciate your arrival.

best regards,

Lord Devyn, the Druid.

We arrived in the middle of an angry new moon night; What a pleasure
to see this rough and wild land. Well, "see" is not the right expression here
as it was really dark, but I could smell the landscape, its mountains,
grasslands and even these strange and foreign creatures that could never
be just animals but had to be true beasts. I was really excited 'cause I love
it to walk on the wild side.

Torches were lit and Lady Nellwyn announced to encamp 'till the next
morning. I could see the constantly growing concerns in the faces of the
others but people are always afraid of unknown new things, especially in
the dark. I gave orders to my men to secure the bivouac and saw Lady
Nellwyn already stepping towards me to request exactly for this. It's
always a pleasure to see Lady Nellwyn and therefore, I'm never angry
about requests from her---even though, they are often not necessary, but
protocols have to be adhered to when wanting to keep the morale and
disciplin straight.

In that night, not many people fell asleep. Probably, most felt queasy at
this strange new place and wished themself back in their old and
comfortable homes. Certainly, much time had elapsed since these old
times people had in mind---a time long before the end and even the
beginning of the futile strife.

In the last hours before the break of dawn, I personally kept watch as
needless to say I had to exceptionally take care of the security of all
Eburones---especially, in the first night of our arrival on this new and
unknown world. Therefore, I could see Devyn climbing up a hill when the
new day just was born. I'm sure *he* didn't sleep at all during the night.
He took a deep breath and was clearly in a good temper and this wasn't
suprising because the morning spread a far more kindly mood among the
people. There was no cloud in the sky and the morning promised to
become a nice and warm day.

Just in that moment as I started to amuse myself about this changing in
the people's sense, Ansgard, one of my best men, came to me and reported
to me that he descried a foreign scout. Ansgard said he didn't look armed or
hostile but he could, of course, have got at least a knife under his
greatcoat.

On my way to Lady Nellwyn, I met Devyn, who saw the scout as well.
Together with Padre Gildas and Lady Nellwyn, we deliberated on what best
to do. I suggested as the scout for sure wasn't a threat to me that
I should establish the first contact. Lady Nellwyn and the others didn't like
my piece of advice and prefered to act in a more gentle way. So it came
that Devyn, the druid, sallied forth to meet the stranger. I had serious doubts
that this decision was wise..

Sir Kailen told me the stranger was a scout, not a ranger. Well, I don`t care
about these inconsiderable differences. I always care more about the person
himself, not about his military or non-military rank.

As I approached that young scout, I spotted out that he didn`t bear any weapons
but only had got a white standard in his hand. He looked curious---probably not
less than me. Eventually, we stood in front of each other for a while before he
rised to speak as the first of us. That was the time, I really realized for the first
time that our folk ran ashore in a foreign country---as I didn`t understand a
single world. I must have looked very perplexed because he tried again to find
words which obviously formed a question and even more obviously, the question
was addressed to me.

Finally, I raised my hand to my chest and said: "Devyn. I`m Devyn." Now it was
his turn to be at a loss. I repeated "Devyn", still my palm of hand on my chest.
He began to grasp my intention and said: "Burkhard. Mein Name ist Burkhard". We
began to gesticulate for a while and tried to communicate with simple words. I don`t
know how much time we spent waving about---looking surely like crazy
monkeys---but after a while, I agreed to accompany him for some time in order
to learn more about this odd commercial language.

Burkhard seemed to persue a certain direction and I assumed he led us to
his Lord. I wondered how this folk of dealers would welcome strangers like me.
Sir Kailen`s concerns came to my mind but I quickly discarded them again. This
was my personal adventure and I was dead set on finding new friends ..

Venerable People of Tamar!

Several months ago, Lord Devyn, the leader of the Druid`s caste, accompanied a
scout with the name Burkhard to his homeland. Lord Devyn intended to learn the
Commercial Languge. Unfortunately, Devyn reported us that Burkard could just as
little understand the Common Language as we are able to understand the
Commercial Language---namely, not at all. Nevertheless, we had the hope,
that the sovereign of his realm is able to understand and speak both languages.

Though, a message from Lord Devyn is overdue for months now! We`re really
worried about his disappearence!

Has someone seen Lord Devyn or does someone know the scout Burkhard or the realm he belongs to?

We`d be grateful to hear any helpful news..

Lion-hearted people of Tamar,

We even had sent Ansgard, one of our best warriors, as a guard. He followed both, Lord
Devyn and Burkhard, in a short distance and remained surely unnoticed. There`s no
message from him either, thus, they all must be ambushed by rogues in superior numbers!

Let us know where these rouges came from and the caste of the warriors will
deal with them in a proper way!

Dear Lady Nellwyn,

I hope, you'll receive this message and, thus, can pluck up courage regarding my
survival. Several times death was closely following my tracks and it's due to
the great Goddess that I'm still alive.

Burkhard, the scout I accompanied, and me run after a short while into a trap of
the Orcs. We were resting for a while in an apparently peaceful, solitary
mountain shelter as suddenly a horde of Orcs appeared from nowhere.

We tried to resist as good as possible but we were without any chance. We would
have died an appalling death if it had not been for the self-sacrifice of the
brave warrior Ansgard! Ansgard saved our lives. He seemed to have followed us
unnoticed but in a near distance. If I had known this before I would have been
disgruntled but from a retrospective point of view, I'm very glad that Sir
Kailen took care of us by sending Ansgard as guardian. He managed to slay most
of the Orcs before a dastard one throw its axe into Ansgard's back. Shortly
afterwards something hit my head and I lost consciousness. As I woke up again, I
realized that Burkhard had hauled me out of the mountain shelter and we lay
quiet behind some dense brushwood. Thanks to Ansgard's courage we could escape
and thanks to Burkhard's unselfishness I'm still alive.

My injury was severe and I lost my consciousness again and again. Unfortunately,
Burkhard was also wounded but he concealed it in the phases I was awake. At
some point in time, I awoke and found myself on an old cargo vessel. Burkhard
was sitting next to me and I saw for the first time that his abdomen was hurt.
At a first glance, his wound didn't look severe but due to all the dirt around
it had begun to suppurate and a proper treatment was urgently necessary,
however, not possible on this ship. Only a few days later, Burkhard died.

Weeks later, thanks to the Goddess, I completely recovered from my suffering and
soon after, the ship called at a port. I disembarked and quickly discovered
that I was on an island. Meanwhile, I've scouted the entire island and I've
managed to drawn a more or less complete map of it.

Bild

I hope, someone will be able to recognize the island and tell you it's location
and name. I'm going to give the map and this message to one of the scouts who
are around on this island. So far, none of them I met was able to understand my
language. Nevertheless, I hope, this message will find its way to you ..

My odyssey is continuing but I'm confident and ready to meet my fate.
I feel everything is going to be alright.

Yours sincerely,
Devyn, the Druid.

Dear Lady Nellwyn,

the drawing shows the island Ithilien!
My homeland is located on this island.
As we read Masato's message, we immediately ordered our scouts to look out for Lord Devyn.
And we're very delighted to let you know, that indeed, we have found Lord Devyn!
He is in good health!

With kind regards,

Cassy

kind regards,

Lord Devyn, the Druid
