Tutorial Part 4/8
Hello dear player,
in this fourth part of the tutorial, I would like to focus on the
luxury goods. Like all Lords, you probably want to be big, mighty and
famous. One way there are luxury goods. On Tamar, those can only be
produced by small, specialized manufacturers. Since all big Lords need
luxury goods, you can earn a lot of gold quickly by producing luxury
goods.
You have to remember that you need enough resources, just like for
producing weapons and armor. How to calculate your resources was shown
in the third tutorial.
To start making luxury goods, you will have to wait for a traveling
merchant who will teach you the required knowledge. The bard will tell
you once that happens. By the way, the merchant comes more often if a
lot of resources are available in your realm!
However, there is no use in starting production before you have built
a market place. Like all other goods, luxury items are being bought
from your people on the market place. Also, it's not worthwhile to
produce if you have no big countries as your neighbors, since nobody
will buy from you then. In that case, weapons and armor are the better
choice.
As soon as production has started, you should offer them to the bigger
Lords you know to start earning. There are 16 types of luxury items,
and every Lord needs more or less of each. Also watch the type of
luxury good. If you are strong on mineral resource, you don't want to
produce silk. You need the right kind of resources to have a good
production output. If all is prepared well, you can earn millions.
What you do with all the gold is up to you :-)
Finally, you should be aware that you will lose the ability to produce
if you run out of resources. Of course, you can buy resources on the
market to stock up and keep producing even if your own land doesn't
supply enough.
Complicated, isn't it? You will have time to figure it all out, since
you probably don't have a trade registry yet, which is required to do
this kind of stuff.
One more thing: As soon as you have more than own town and lose the
ability to produce luxuries, you cannot regain it. The merchant will
not visit anymore. He will by on his way to other small Lords to teach
them.
At this point you may choose to stockpile your resource and sell them
on the market instead. Manufacturers are always looking to buy
resources. Also many people need wood and stones.
And another thing. The client has two ways of sending messages. One will
send a message around to all other players. You will find this in the
tavern (in the town). But you can also send message to specific
people. This is found in Diplomacy -> Messages.
In the tavern, you can also talk directly to other players. For this
option, you will need to stay online. In the second option screen, you
can also activate the IRC panel. This will keep you updated on the
talks in the tavern. If you are politically active, you may want to
know what your neighbor might be talking about you right now.
Give it a try!
That shall be all for today. I say good by and remains with best
regards
The sage
